« on: March 21, 2018, 03:43:34 am »
Committee: Certification

Contact info: Strong Female Character sfc@wftda.com (Certification Chair)

Reports to: A member of Certification Oversight who will have oversight over the Level 1 system as part of their responsibilities. This is subject to change based on the details of the new Certification system, and the needs of the committee.

Time Commitment:   20 hours during the first 10 days of every month except December. This is not flexible!

Description: After training, you will be the first person to read applications for Level 1. This includes applications from uncertified officials, and applications from any Certified official who is applying for Level 1. (For both referees and NSOs). You will carefully review their record via written feedback in various formats that describe the official’s performance in specific games, as well as broader overviews of their overall skills and level of performance.

Upon careful consideration, you will determine whether or not to certify the official at Level 1. If you decide to certify an official at Level 1, you will also decide whether to pass their application on to the Level 2/3 Panel for consideration of higher certification.

You will also write a summary of all of the material reviewed. This summary should clearly identify strengths, and also identify challenges. This summary should be detailed, as it might constitute the only constructive criticism that some officials are able to obtain. If you decide not to pass the application on to the Level 2/3 Panel, your summary must concretely state what is holding the official back from the next level, in the form of concrete steps necessary for the official to obtain the next level.

You are expected to make your determinations carefully, for no more than 10 individual applicants per month. However, to give the Level 2/3 Panels time to process anybody “bumped,” these determinations must be made by the 10th of the month. Summaries must be completed by the 20th of the month in order for them to be reviewed and copy-edited. All materials will be made available by the 1st of the month.

Mandatory Skills needed:
• Detail-oriented.
• Careful reader.
• Strict confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Reliability.
• Analyzing written evaluations to construct a full picture of an officials’ skills based on the information provided.
• Ability to provide constructive criticism in writing.
• Ability to make decisions based on objective and subjective information.

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience in an evaluative discipline, including education, training, testing, or management.
• Experience evaluating officiating, which could include being a Head Official, a skater with a history of writing evaluations, or someone who has completed the Officials Evaluator materials.

Personal Requirements:
• Proven record of responding to email, both personal and professional, in a timely manner (2 business days).
• Proactive communication of availability -- we really need to be sure your job is covered when you take time off!
• A personal heartfelt desire to help give people the information they need to grow and succeed.

We’ve hired our first round of applicants for this role! We may need to hire 1-2 more, but will not know this for several weeks -- so while we're not "closed" for applications yet, if you apply now, it may be a while before we follow up. We are not ignoring you or rejecting you!
